For how long it has been coming only Robert Johnston would know, for it was he who recorded, most probably, his best round by far to be a winner of last week's Kempsey Veterans Golf Club's Monthly Medal Stroke event.

A winner all right, but the descriptive word brilliant must be included when searching to find a just reward for his round of 64 that did reduce to an eye-catching 8-under 48 nett.
And furthermore Johnno was up (or is it down) just listed as a B-grader and the grapevine has it that he has cemented a permanent place amongst the top echelon on a Tuesday. Maybe Tuesday the Devil's number 13 will appear!
Amazing with the putter he was, how about just 17 strokes on the 14 holes contested and you guessed it, the Club's finance controller added the putting rider's reward to his day's takings.

Yes, sirree, patience is a virtue (so to speak).
The other grade winners - Graham Schasser (A) and Greg Mayhew (C) - also gained a lift in feeling with their 52 netts with the latter surviving in a 3-way countback to have the prized medallion come his way.
Naturally, the handicapper will also be looking closely to these performances and a so-called penalty of just the lone stroke could eventuate.
The name of the game is golf, which in any good gentleman's determining is giving your very best where and whenever stepping onto any course or links for enjoyment. "Don't put the brakes on," did I hear someone say?
Oh, Graham had a 65 off the stick, whilst Gregory's 74 was really satisfying, to say the least.
The unlucky ones - beaten on the countback - in the minor grade were Phil Pinney and Ray O'Brien, whilst the ever consistent Graeme Dyet was just the one back in A-grade.
A new Srixon also went to Trevor Bailey, Max Gleeson, Wayne Hutley, Bob Garner and Milton Riggs for their 54 nett, whilst Mark Townsend and Ron Ingall rounded off the list of ball winners just a stroke behind.
Bailey and Pinney were the A and C-grade putting winners with respective 19 and 21 totals.
Nearest the pin to the third hole were Kevin Hopping (A), Brian Stringer (B) and Mr Riggs (C), whilst Dyet went solo at the eighth hole.
Chip-ins were performed by Doug Magennis, Bailey (2), Schasser, Johnston, Pinney, Hutley, Ingall and Mr Riggs.
Now, Tuesday's event is something of a very rare 14-hole 2Ball Stableford Multiplier, players multiplying their scores after each hole, then it becomes addition after that final hole.
Now, for an example for anyone not in the know, one player has a four and his partner two an eight is penned in the scorecard's square - simply 4 x 2 = 8; however 4 x 0 = 0. Let the judges' decision be final, eh!
Any visitors to our Nature's Wonderland are invited to take part and they can be assured that fun and frivolity will prevail. A phone call to the Club on 65626291 would be appreciated.
Tee-off is 9.30am and the back nine holes do dominate this time.
