Kempsey Shire Council have launched a program of free events for people in the Macleay who were impacted by the 2019 bushfires. The workshops and events are aimed at helping locals connect and heal together as a community.
Council's recovery coordinator Jo McGoldrick said there has been great feedback received towards the community events.
"We have started to kick off our community events and workshops at Bellbrook and Willawarrin which is the next phase of the recovery. We're focusing more on bringing the community together," she said.
"The booklet we have released has all of the events so locals can register and get involved."
The Strength, support and community is a program of free activities to aid resilience, preparedness and community connection across the Macleay Valley.
"We have held a number of the events already and there have been really great numbers at each activity," Jo said.
Some of the events include yoga, lunches, exercise classes, cooking lessons, CPR training and landscape recovery workshops.
"We've also had guest speakers at the lunchen events and the RFS also held a preparedness workshop at Bellbrook.
"We're also going to be holding workshops in September to help land owners encourage wildlife back onto their property."
Although it has almost been 10 months since the Carrai East Bushfire, Jo said there are still many people in the community visiting the Recovery Hub for assistance.
"We are still seeing a number of new faces at the Recovery Hub, sometimes it can be for assistance or just for someone to talk to.
"People do still need support in the community and that's what we're here for.
"We're also going to start working on criteria for community grants that will hopefully be available next month."
