Youngster Beau Mainey has started the 2020/21 Macleay Valley cricket season in the best possible way, starring in his Nulla C&G sides second grade win over Stuarts Point/Eungai.
Stuarts Point/Eungai won the toss and elected to bat with Maninder Multani (12) and Connor Gainge (25) getting their side off to a reasonable start.
Whilst the runs steadily came for the batting side, wickets continued to fall with partnerships consistently broken.
When Justin Groundwater departed off the bowling of Mainey at 4/76, Steven Moorcroft entered.
Moorcroft's innings was simply scintillating, bashing his way to 101 off 67 balls to put his side in a solid position, finishing their 40 overs at 6/208.
Mainey was the standout for Nulla C&G, securing figures of 4/30 from his 8 overs.
When Nulla's openers walked onto the field, Mainey picked up from where left off to immediately take the game away from Stuarts Point/Eungai.
Connor Gainge took the wicket of Barry Pogson to have Nulla at 1/2 but Mainey was immovable at the other end.
His 113 off 93 balls meant the away side reached the desired total at the 35.2 over mark only six wickets down.
Jason Norman (24), George Hill (30) and Jaspal Singh (22) all chipped in as well.
Nulla Billy Goats vs SWR Shoeys Bakery:
South West Rocks put in one of the most dominant performances of the weekend against Nulla at Frederickton to kick their season off well.
SWR's decision to bat first proved to be a masterstroke as Grant Schubert and Graham Hughes started strong.
Schubert retired on 30 runs as Hughes continued his success at the crease.
Hughes' innings of 83 included 11 4's and two 6's as he helped his side reach 8/199 at the end of their 40 overs.
Trent De Gioia had the best figures for Nulla with 2/26 off 4 overs along with Shane Webber's 2/28 off 8.
Nulla walked onto the pitch for their innings but 12.2 overs later both sides were walking off after a clinical South West Rocks bowling performance.
Cooper Schubert's 4/6 off 2.2 overs was the standout along with Jack Ramsay's 3/15 off 4 overs.
Nulla only managing 46 runs as Zac McKiernan top scored with 17 runs.
Rovers HISC vs Nulla Bucketeers:
At Kempsey Golf Club, Nulla won the toss, sent Rovers in and got off to a great start to have their opposition at 3/26.
Rovers Ben Brennan then steadied the ship with an almost run a ball 45 with his 50 run partnership with Ellen Hetherington proving vital.
Hetherington went on to score 32 whilst Scott Fuller did significant damage down the bottom of the order to score 48 runs off 44 balls.
Nulla would need to hit 202 off their 35 overs and their openers started strong before Patrick Peterson departed with the score at 1/42.
A batting collapse then commenced through the bowling of Ben Mitchell (2/24) and Hetherington (2/18) as James Preston entered with the score at 4/61.
Preston went on to score an attacking 55 off 61 balls but received minimal help at the other end with Nulla bowled out for 138 off 26.1 overs.
Riley Mitchell finished off the tail to walk away with figures of 4/14 along with the important wicket of Mark Smee (30) at the top of the order.
