There was no other way to describe it, yes, last Tuesday's Kempsey Veterans Golf Club Stableford competition was one of the most enjoyable days for a sizeable roll-up of 42 members.

With the good field came good scores - by most that is - and 'twas the C-grade lesserlights who did really spring the surprise (so to speak), for the eventual winner, Ray O'Brien, produced a 38-point round.
Up - or is it down - in grade he now faces and this greyhound racing fellow will be jumping from a different box come his next start. Already the handicapper has wielded the axe (so to speak) and a warm welcome to B-grade mate.
Must mention, too, that the runner-up lesserlight, Barry Pearson (OBE!), was back to his best (assumption wise ie) and he had reason to be a bit grumpier,,, as one would think that 34 points good enough for victory.
There you go, once again..."you have to be good..." eh!

A really good performance once again by Graeme Dyet and this time his round worth 32 points led the way of the top echelon.
Any score above the 28 for par figures is considered good for any an A-grader and Graeme is assuredly one of our most consistent performers. Must be a strong chance for the year's best and fairest award at next month's presentation party.
Last, but certainly not least, another better-than-good effort by Bob Garner, who got the bikkies (ie $20 voucher) in B-grade, albeit on a countback with newcomer Chris Verzenaal, following their 31-pointers.
Both veterans are constant users of the driving range and 'tis really good to see them benefit from their diligence (so to speak).
Of course, the runners-up as mentioned, were new Bridgestone ball recipients and so, too, were Peter Mercer (32), Paul McNamara, Graham Schasser, Graham Hall and Phil Pinney, all with 30 points to their name.
Nearest the pin at the Alan Macdonald Memorial $100 Hole-In-One third hole were Steve Bates (A), Ray Moodie (B) and John Inder (C) and 'twas the latter making it a daily double with the one and only being on at the eighth hole.
Quite a feat for this cacky or left-hander who even does give you your change at the burger counter with his left hand.
Chip-ins were performed by Graeme Irving, McNamara, Schasser and Hall.
Tuesday's event for Kempsey Veterans Golf Club members and interested visitors is a 14-hole 2BBB Stableford. Tee-off 9am.
