The Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey, said the program offers organisations on the Mid North Coast and right up and down the NSW coastline the opportunity to apply for funding for drones, observation towers and equipment, emergency evacuation alarms and communication systems.
"This is a fantastic announcement from the NSW Government to keep beachgoers safe," Ms Pavey said.
"A summer at the beach is engrained in our local community culture, so it is critical when we head to the water we can do so with a reduced risk of shark attacks, and that is exactly what the Shark Observation Grants program will help achieve.
"Drones and other observation and evacuation systems play a critical role in keeping swimmers safe, and so we are putting more eyes in the sky to keep a close watch on our waters".
Ms Pavey encouraged Surf Life Saving Clubs, councils and other authorised applicants to apply before the closing date on 11 December 2020.
