Kempsey Shire mayor Liz Campbell said she is looking forward to honouring hard working individuals and groups across the Macleay Valley at the Australia Day Awards Ceremony.
"Australia Day is a very emotional day, where we recognise local heroes through the awards ceremony and welcome our newest citizens. It has been wonderful seeing the number of nominations that have come through so far and we are looking forward to seeing more in the days to come," Cr Campbell said.
Nominations serve to recognise outstanding contributions to the local community.
The public is encouraged to nominate someone special across one of the four 2021 Australia Day award categories:
. Citizen of the Year
. Young Citizen of the Year
. Volunteer of the Year
. Community Group of the Year
"2020 gave us many local heroes, so this Australia Day join us at the Slim Dusty Centre for a barbecue breakfast, a chance to see the Black Summer photo exhibition and the awards ceremony to recognise our heroes. See you there," Cr Campbell said.
The 2021 Australia Day event will be held at the Slim Dusty Centre located at 490 Macleay Valley Way, South Kempsey, on Tuesday January 26, with doors opening at 8.30.
Award nominees, recipients and new citizens will be celebrated with a welcome breakfast, music and dance performances, Welcome to Country and an official ceremony which will begin at 10 o'clock.
