At the 2021 Kempsey Shire Australia Day Ceremony, 11 new citizens were welcomed into the community in the first citizenship ceremony held in the Macleay in 12 months.

Mayor Campbell welcomed the 11 new citizens during her opening speech at the ceremony on January 26.
"These 11 people are already upstanding residents in our community and today they will become Australian citizens," she said.
"2020 was a year that brought us together and we are united by our diversity.
"To choose a country. To choose Australia. It says so much about them and about us.
"No matter where you come from, we are all Australians and choosing to become a citizen is very special," Cr Campbell said.
The 11 new Australian citizens hail from a number of different countries including the United Kingdom, Thailand, Germany and the Philippines.
Kempsey Shire's 2021 Australia Day ambassador Dick Adams APM OAM RFD also extended his congratulations to our newest citizens during the ceremony.
"I would like to acknowledge all of the new citizens here today, each of you have made a conscious decision to become Australians and that is something to be proud of," he said.
