About 11.40pm on Friday January 29 2021, officers from the Mid North Coast Traffic and Highway Patrol observed a Holden sedan travelling on South Street, South Kempsey, above the sign posted 60km/h speed limit.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, which accelerated away.
A pursuit was initiated, travelling along Gowings Hill Road before the vehicle failed to negotiate a bend near the intersection of Dondingalong Rd and left the roadway, colliding with trees.
The male driver ran off, through a nearby paddock as the vehicle was engulfed in flames.
The passengers - a 28-year-old woman and two children, aged three and four - were trapped in the burning vehicle.
They were freed from the vehicle by officers and treated by paramedics before being taken to Port Macquarie Hospital suffering minor injuries.
As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone with information about the driver or his whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
