Just after 3pm on February 14, Marine Rescue Port Macquarie, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and lifeguards from Town Beach were tasked to the area.
Upon emergency services' arrival, the two occupants of the catamaran had already been picked up by a passer-by on a jetski.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council lifeguard supervisor James Turnham said the two people had been in the water for around 40 minutes.
"With the strong southerly they had drifted a fair way towards the north by the time they were rescued," he said.
"We are still unsure of the size of the catamaran, but that is nowhere to be seen; it has either sunk or is floating somewhere out there."
Marine Rescue Port Macquarie put out a warning on social media during the afternoon that there was a "potential navigation hazard" for vessels in the area.
The vessel was approximately 300 metres off the point.
