The weekend of February 20 and 21 saw local swimmers from Kempsey and Crescent Head venture down to Sydney for the NSW Country Swimming Championships with a stack of happy faces leaving the big smoke.

The Kempsey Swimming Club was extremely successful with swimmers achieving personal bests, top 10 finishers and three individual medals for Grace Ryan.
Kempsey and Crescent Head Pointers were the two clubs representing our area in a pool of 99.
Crescent Head had one athlete, Caleb Mavin, who entered in the 100m freestyle (33rd), 100m butterfly (11th) and 200m butterfly (8th).
Kempsey had a total of 10 swimmers and finished an amazing 23rd out of the 99 clubs!
The top achievements include:
Josie Charlton (17):
- Five top 10 finishers
- Six personal bests
- Club record in the 100m backstroke.
Max Farrell (15):
- Three top 10 finishers
- Eight personal bests
- Two club records, 100m backstroke & 800m freestyle
Adam Grant (16):
- One top 10 finish in 400m individual medley
- Seven personal bests
Grace Ryan (25):
- Two silvers and a bronze medal
- Four personal bests
Keeley Smith (12):
- Three personal bests and two top 10 finishers
Mark Thurgood (23):
- Three top ten finishers
- Five personal bests
Kolby Wood (23):
- Four top ten finishers
- Four personal bests
Brielle Woodger (14):
- Two top ten finishers
- Four personal bests
- One club record in 100 freestyle
Jake Worthing (16):
- Five personal bests
Grant, Worthing, Thurgood and Wood all teamed up for two relays, finishing sixth in the 200m medley and fourth in the freestyle.
Coach Tony Hudson was ecstatic with the squad's achievements.
"They trained hard in preparation, it's one of the best squad's I've had in years," he told the Argus.
"Training involves seven swimming sessions a week and two land sessions which is mainly gym work, they juggle that with full-time jobs or school - they've done an amazing job."
In further good news, Grace Ryan and Max Farrell will be going to the Australian Swimming Championships in April this year.
The Qualifying times for the Australian Age Swimming Championships and the Australian Swimming Championships have been updated with Ryan now qualifying for 50m free, 50m fly and 100m fly.
Max has qualified for the 400 free in the 16 year age category.
The Australian Age Swimming Championships begin April 5 and the Australian Swimming Championships commence on April 14 on the Gold Coast.
