Celebrating its 30th year in this year, Flickerfest remains Australia's leading Academy qualifying and BAFTA recognised short film festival, ensuring Australia continues to present A-list short film programmes recognised among the best in the world with films hand-picked from the festival's 2700 entries.
The programmes present a selection of entertaining, inspiring and award-winning films, giving local Flickerfest audiences the first look at the hottest shorts in the world today.
The event will be held at Kempsey's Majestic Cinema on Friday and Saturday.
Highlights from the Best of Australian Shorts on Friday March 12 at 7pm include Roborovski, which won the Yoram Gross Award For Best Australian Animation at Flickerfest 2021. This animated short about an adorable miniature hamster seeking revenge was penned by acclaimed writer John Collee (Happy Feet).
The directorial debut of actress Phoebe Tonkin, Furlough, a moving 19 minute drama set on the Central Coast of NSW screens alongside Matt Vesely's short comedy System Error about a robot who works in a dystopian convenience store.
The Best of International Shorts programme on Saturday March 13 at 7pm features David, starring comedy legend Will Ferrell, which had its World Premiere at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2020, the stunning multi-award winning Heading South from China, amazing psychedelic animation, Normal from France and oozing bucket-loads of heart and a feisty leading lady, Frankie Jean & The Morning Star from New Zealand.
