River heights in the town of Sapphire rose rapidly to above major flood levels, prompting a warning for residents to get to higher ground early on Wednesday morning.
Intense rainfall has now eased and river heights are dropping, but the Bureau of Meteorology warns more thunderstorms are possible inland.
Wet weather is also forecast to continue into the weekend for the southeast of the state.
