Spaced from the Sunshine Coast to Warwick, southwest of Brisbane, the school closures follow a rain event which has stretched to the South Australian border.

The body of husband and father David Hornman was found inside his upturned ute in a flooded creek near Lamington National Park on Wednesday morning

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk sent her condolences to the 38-year-old's family in parliament on Thursday.

"Our weather can be cruel and conditions can change in an instant," she said.

Mr Hornman had been reported missing and a police investigation into his death centres on the Coburg Road Causeway, which crosses Canungra Creek.

"Police are interested in obtaining vision of the weather conditions in the area particularly near Coburg Road Causeway between 5am and 7am on March 22, as well as any vision capturing a white Isuzu utility heading down Coburg Road towards Canungra within those times," detectives said in a statement on Thursday.

Ms Palaszczuk also warned Queenslanders the danger was not over as water continued to make its way through flooded areas.

"Flood warnings are current for a number of Queensland creeks and rivers (and) storms are forecast between Townsville and Cairns," she said.

Swift water rescue crews were called on to help a starnded truck driver about two and a half hours west of Brisbane on Tuesday afternoon.

The stretch of water was about 500 metres long and rescuers transported him to dry land by inflatable boat.

River levels near the coast are expected to recede over the next two days, however Bureau of Meteorology Hydrologist Sue Oates says it is a different story inland.

"Some of those catchments will take several weeks to drain," she said.

Several warnings are in place and Ms Oates said the southern Inland town of Goondiwindi would see flood levels peak on Thursday afternoon.

State Emergency Services Minister Mark Ryan said it would be some time before a comprehensive tally of flooded properties and vehicles lost to floodwaters.

Asked if he would consider a levy to help uninsured families recover, Prime Minister Scott Morrison told ABC radio he had learnt from the 2019 floods in North Queensland.

"We've had a series of different grants and other support mechanisms as people emerge from floods," he said.

"I was very involved personally in the design of those with (Coordinator-General) Shane Stone up there in North Queensland."

Disaster assistance is available for the Gold Coast, Goondiwindi, Lockyer Valley, Logan City, Quilpie, Scenic Rim and Southern Downs.
