The 2021 Kempsey Show was due to be held on April 13 and 14.
Kempsey Show Society president Stewart Witchard said the decision was made due to the impacts of the flood on local farmers.
"The decision to postpone the show until later in the year wasn't taken lightly," he said.
"The Kempsey Show is first and foremost an agriculture show and without that section, we wouldn't have a show.
"Our farmers have been the hardest hit by the flood and we want to give them time so they can exhibit their best produce, horses and cattle in the best conditions."
Stewart said postponing the show will also give the whole community time to recover.
"This is a time for the community to rebuild. The ADF are currently working out of the showground and their work is important to the recovery effort," he said.
"There are people who can't live in their homes, roads and bridges have been damaged and livestock washed away.
"We want to give the community time to recover and then celebrate the recovery effort at the end of the year by putting on a fantastic show for the community."
Stewart said this decision also opens up the showground to be utilised by agencies involved in the recovery phase.
The Kempsey Show Society are currently working with the Showmen's Guild, the Agricultural Societies Council and local stakeholders to determine a suitable date for the show in September.
"We anticipate we will have the dates by the end of next week and will let the community know," Stewart said.
