After a disappointing defeat to Comboyne Tigers two weeks ago, the South West Rocks Marlins have returned to their winning ways by defeating the Harrington Hurricanes in Harrington.
On a wet track where snorkels would've come in handy it was the Marlins application towards their defence that got them over the line.
"It was hard to control the footy with a lot of dropped ball and there was a struggle to complete sets," Marlins co-coach Alfie Drew told the Argus.
"We had a much better attitude in defence though and that's what got us over the line."
The performances of Vincent Smith and Beau Russell-Docherty were a particular highlight for Drew.
"Their runs through the middle and ability to make tackles was great, the one percent things they did got us the win and helped us play more direct," he said.
Drew also welcomed back his coaching partner Malcolm Webster who was sorely missed in the loss to the Tigers.
"He made a big difference, his communication was missing last game and it was brilliant on the weekend," he explained.
"He was setting up plays and taking on the line which made it difficult for the Hurricanes to defend."
The Marlins will take on Long Flat Dragons at South West Rocks this Saturday.
The Dragons are coming off a dominant 30-4 win over the Lower Macleay Magpies.
"They always bring a tough side with powerful forwards and a well structured offence," Drew said of the Dragons.
"We just have to complete our sets, bring the same defensive attitude and we should be able to get over the top of them."
South West Rocks Marlins 26 (Tarn Smith, Malcolm Webster, Beau Russell-Docherty, Isaiah Natty, Peter Bulla tries; Jarrod Reeves 3 goals) defeated Harrington Hurricanes 10 (Riley Davis, Brenton Streeting tries; Dylan McArdle goal).
