Over the past five years MLS has successfully mobilised the community and raised awareness on living sustainably and climate action.

Most recently, in cooperation with Kempsey council, MLS initiated two screenings of the film 2040 at the Majestic Cinema.

In June MLS will hold the Sustainability Festival, set over two days.

And on June 5, MLS invites everyone to celebrate World Environment Day, by coming along to the Sustainability Showcase from 8am-1pm at the Kempsey Riverside Markets.

"Local businesses and organisations will be advocating sustainable lifestyles, and encouraging to reduce waste, reuse and recycle resources," MLS media spokesperson Ella Dixon said.

"There will be information and demonstrations about sustainable building, plastics, natural body care, chemical-free cleaning, nest boxes, electric cars and more.

"Native plants and bush tucker will be available. Community organisations such as Save Our Macleay River and Landcare will also be there."

While on June 19, MLS will present the Sustainability Forum, an all day event at Melville High School.

"The forum will be packed with powerful speakers, educational and inspiring workshops, all leading to community resilience and action on sustainability and climate justice," Ella said.

"The morning panel and the workshops will give successful examples of sustainable living and grassroots action on climate change.

"The aim is to connect our community by bringing diverse local voices into conversation."

There will be representatives of the Dunghutti Nation on the panel and as workshop facilitators.

"The afternoon will focus on joining the dots on climate related problems and solutions to them. The aim is to create momentum for new community projects and ongoing discussions," Ella said.

"Guest speaker, Amanda Cahill, founder of The Next Economy, will be discussing the economic tools and practices we can use to ensure the long-term well-being of both people and planet, but also to support communities across Australia to implement these approaches to strengthen and stimulate their local economies."
