It was MLS's first time running such a large event and their volunteers put in a massive effort to bring it to fruition.
Riverside Park was abuzz and, with music from Macleay Entertainment and Music Zoo adding just the right vibe to the occasion, there was a strong feeling of community working toward a sustainable future.
It bodes well for the success of the other part of the MLS Sustainability Fest, the Sustainability Forum, being held on Saturday June 19 from 9am-4pm (tickets available through Eventbrite and at the door) in the grounds of Melville High School.
Sage words during the Welcome to Country from Dunghutti elder Uncle Bob Mumbler put into perspective the need for a sustainable future and our impact on others through how we live our lives.
The World Environment Day theme this year was Ecosystem Restoration and it was obvious that we are well represented in the Macleay with many display stalls showing off the bush care they do in the Valley. All bush care stall holders were quick to point out they could use more volunteers!
Great interest was generated by the presence of electric vehicles with their enthusiastic owners fully occupied throughout the morning answering questions.
Equally busy were Port Plastics with their solutions for repurposing of plastic waste.
The range of stalls with a view to sustainable living was impressive and calls have come for a repeat performance of the day including from the Riverside Market organiser.
