"Officers from the Mid North Coast Police District are working to educate and support the community to follow restriction guidelines," Detective Chief Inspector Darren Jameson said.

"Over the weekend the main area of concern was people not wearing face masks which was widespread across the Mid North Coast.

"It was a considerable concern and we will be monitoring the issue over the next two weeks."

Police issued a number of warnings to people who were not following the rules over the weekend, however officers will start to issue fines if the behavior continues.

"The information that we want the community to know is that the Delta strain of the virus is highly contagious and the community needs to not only protect themselves, but those around them as well by wearing face masks," Det Jameson said.

"We will be moving away from warnings and will be handing out fines if people continue to not comply."

Det Jameson said enforcing the restrictions will help in keeping the Mid North Coast COVID-free.

"The community needs to know that police will issue on the spot fines for non-compliance," he said.

"Everyone needs to be adults and take responsibility for the health and safety of the community by wearing face masks when out in public."
