Textiles and Design and Art students have recently been able to learn the art of silk painting under the expert guidance of local artist Robyn Jackson.
Silk painting is a traditional way of painting in Asia.
Methods vary, but using traditional supplies of 100% silk fabric, stretched in a frame, and applying textile paints or dyes are the beginnings of an amazing creative process in making textile art.
Robyn was able to offer her valuable knowledge and skills to help the students complete a silk painting project that encompasses their unit of work on decorative techniques.
"We would like to thank Robyn for providing such an inspiring experience," a Melville High spokesperson said.
Exploring the foundations of traditional Aboriginal painting, Year 10 visited the local Dunghutti-Ngaku Aboriginal Art Gallery in Kempsey for their art unit.
Alan and Jason Ridgeway introduced the students to new techniques, with Jason discussing what inspires his work and how he has made his love for painting a career.
The students had a wonderful time and are feeling very inspired to continue creating their art.
