With the September election just around the corner, residents have the chance to not only vote for their future councillors, but also to run as a candidate themselves and work with council to serve the local community.
By participating in the Local Government Election on Saturday, September 4, we can all have our say on those who will be elected Kempsey Shire Council mayor and councillors for the next term.
With voting compulsory, Kempsey Shire Council manager Governance and Information Services, Daniel Thoroughgood, is encouraging voters to check that their enrolment is up to date through the NSW Electoral Commission website and to think about what values they would like to see in their council.
"The Local Government Election decides our councillors for the next three years and electing strong community leaders with the capacity to guide council in making the best decisions is vital," Mr Thoroughgood said.
Running as a candidate for council is also an exciting opportunity to make a difference and represent the interests of residents.
"Council is encouraging residents from all walks of life to run as a candidate and if you are passionate about your local community then you are already the ideal candidate. We recommend visiting the NSW Electoral Commission's website to understand the process involved," Mr Thoroughgood said.
"As we get closer to the election, I would like to thank the current councillors for their commitment and devotion to the community over the last four years."
