The project will be funded by a $300,000 grant under round two of the Federal Government's Regional Airports Program.
Member for Cowper, Pat Conaghan, and Member for Lyne, Dr David Gillespie, said the Port airport provides an essential link to the rest of Australia.
"Every dollar spent on local infrastructure is a dollar well spent and I look forward to working with (Port Macquarie-Hastings) council to deliver this project as we continue recovering from the pandemic," Dr Gillespie said.
Mr Conaghan said the upgrade will improve the safety and comfort for patients and passengers, and better meet the operational requirements of aeromedical and other emergency services.
"This is a great example of our government backing the aviation industry whilst boosting local economies to help secure a stronger future for these regional areas," Mr Conaghan said.
Port Macquarie-Hastings mayor Peta Pinson said first impressions count and further enhancements to one of the Mid North Coast's key gateways are welcome.
"We are delighted to welcome the funding to be able to deliver this project for our community and visitors to our region," Cr Pinson said.
"Ensuring we give a great first impression to our visitors from the moment they walk off the plane is really important.
"Adding a covered walkway will make a real difference in improving the airport safety and experience."
