AN INFORMATION session on a local program which aims to launch people into a career will be held in Kempsey at the end of the month.
The program can help job-seekers - whether they are fresh out of school or looking to return to employment after a number of years out of the workforce.
The latest group of Nambucca Vocational College students to go through the Support Work Ready course have just celebrated their achievement - and they were surprised with immediate job offers!
The students completed their four-week training course, with work placements at Riverside Gardens and Autumn Lodge, and were offered traineeships by these businesses.
Their new jobs will also contribute towards achieving a Certificate III in Individual Support.
The program provides a unique opportunity to get paid, build skills and to gain a qualification.
"The course has been fun and rewarding. I've learnt many skills, big and small, which will be invaluable to my new career," student Madison Russell said.
Head trainer and assessor, Amanda Dooner, said: "Our wonderful students have all expressed how much they have enjoyed their hands-on work placement. We are very grateful for the support of Riverside Gardens and Autumn Lodge in making this course possible."
"Nambucca Vocational College gives structured training and on-the-job support so that students learn what to do in the workplace and why. It's fantastic to see how these students have taken this opportunity, worked hard and achieved great results."
The next Work Ready course will start on September 20. There will be two information sessions to learn more about this free program on Tuesday, August 31:
- Cedar Place Age Care Facility, 58 Cochrane St, West Kempsey from 1.30 to 3.30pm.
- Nambucca Vocational College, 29 Cooper St, Macksville, from 9.30 to 11.30am.
"We understand it can be daunting starting a new course. Whether you are coming straight from school or returning to work after a long break we're there to help you find a new rewarding career," Ms Dooner said.
