Nambucca Valley Councils Manager of Infrastructure Services, Matthew Leibrandt, says the new facilities resulted from a need identified by the community.
"Quite a few locals have mentioned over the years that surrounding areas have their own basketball court, but Nambucca Heads doesn't," he said.
"After consultation with the community, Council successfully applied for the grant to build the basketball court through Round Three of the Stronger Country Communities Fund.
"Bellwood has always had the play equipment for young kids, and we are hoping that the new additions to Bellwood will ensure people of all ages and abilities can enjoy the park.
"The Bellwood Café across the road has a basketball, and table tennis paddles available for rent; anybody who doesn't have access to their own equipment can chat to them."
Built by Josh Spry from Sportssafe Surfaces Australia, the court and table tennis table are just the latest in a long line of upgrades to the park.
In particular, one local group has been very involved, fundraising for several of the additions to the space.
"The Nambucca Heads Lions Club held a fundraiser for a new shelter, and have been instrumental in improving Bellwood park for the community," Mathew said.
"Council paved some of the new paths, and built a new Carousel and Seesaw.
"Overall, the response has been really positive; I think the community appreciate our efforts to improve the area and invest in outdoor activities.
"We have several more projects coming up; stay tuned for more improvements around the Valley."
The upgrades to the park are relatively new, but Mathew says he has received some very positive feedback so far.
"Council have done a great job with new court, I have already seen some teenagers enjoying a game of basketball, and even a few parents with young kids having a game," an unnamed local said.
"My grandson is really enjoying the new seesaw, he is always asking to go to Bellwood now," another said.
