The ONLY action with even a whiff of a chance of success is for the siblings, peers and contemporaries of the perpetrators of this abhorrent crime to try to convince them that to hit a woman (or child or elderly person) for any reason is cowardly and belittles them.
Stop making excuses for the violence and yes, report any incident to the police. It is not "the drugs", "the alcohol", "the culture" that leads to the feral behaviour.
