The duty of deputy mayor is to provide assistance to council members and step into mayor Liz Campbell's role in the event that she is unavailable to perform her duties.
Councillors voted between two nominees, Cr Anthony Patterson and Cr Leo Hourvald, with Cr Patterson receiving the majority vote.
Cr Patterson is an active local businessman and is a long-time resident of the Macleay Valley.
He has many years' experience as a councilor and has previously filled the role of deputy mayor.
"Thank you my fellow councillors which I do hold very dearly to my heart, and carry this position with much respect it deserves," Cr Patterson said.
"I'm still the same person, and I'm still approachable and I look forward to the future term that we have left in our council."
Cr Patterson will now be in the role until the next election on December 4.
Cr Campbell commented on the re-election.
"This will be Cr Patterson's third year as deputy mayor in this term of council and he has been a great support to me and to the other councillors," Cr Campbell said.
"The reason why we had to have an election, is the deputy mayor's position is elected in September (every 12 months), and because of the postponement of the election until December, we needed to have that election today."
