THE Nambucca Heads branch of the Country Women's Association (CWA) is holding a special Melbourne Cup event this year.

Organised in conjunction with Nambucca Heads Bowling club, CWA are raising money for the Ovarian Cancer research foundation by holding a Melbourne Cup Fun day on Tuesday, November 2.
CWA Hosts will be Donna and Margaret.
Bookings are essential; the close off date to lock in a place is October 30; call 6568 6132 to secure a spot today.
"Nambucca Heads CWA Branch is delighted to have the support of the Nambucca Heads Bowling Club and thank the board members and patrons," Nambucca Heads CWA Branch Secretary Kathleen said.
"Frocks, face masks, fascinators, and of course fancy fellas along with frivolities and trivia will make for a most exciting and rewarding way to support Ovarian Cancer, CWA and get back out into the community after many months in lockdown."
For $25 a head, there will be a two course meal from 12pm, and a complimentary glass of bubbly on arrival.
Sweeps are available, and games and trivia will be on from 1.00pm to 3.00pm, with a gold coin donation to play each round.
There will also be prizes for best frock, fancy face mask, fascinator and fancy fella.
So dress to the nines and grab your fanciest fella for a chance to win a prize.
The event will adhere to the current COVID-19 restrictions; everyone is reminded to please be kind to event staff while they try and comply with all government-enforced rules.
Ovarian Cancer is the medical research for 2021/2022 for CWA, NSW.
Each day in Australia, four women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and three will die from the disease.
In Australia the overall five-year survival rate for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer is 46%.
In comparison, the overall five-year survival rate for women diagnosed with breast cancer is 91%.
It is estimated that 1,510 Australian women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, and 1,046 women will die from the disease, that's one woman every eight hours.
