Walkers from across the Mid North Coast can join in and raise awareness about domestic violence by wearing a white shirt and sharing a selfie on social media using the hashtags #CoastalWalkAgainstDFV #LibertyCoastalWalk and #WalkInWhite.
Participants are encouraged to help raise much needed funds for the local families supported by Liberty Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Services by donating or setting up a fundraising page at libertycoastalwalk.raisely.com
Liberty CEO Kelly Lamb said domestic and family violence in our community has been increasing at an alarming rate, and COVID-19 had further increased incidents and complexity of violence locally over the past two years.
"By wearing white and taking part in the walk on Sunday 28 with a group of friends, family or colleagues, you're taking important steps towards a safer community," Mrs Lamb said.
"All funds raised will stay within our community and support local families through specialist outreach services, group work programs, crisis accommodation and taking our services out to outer lying areas of the Port Macquarie Hastings.
"Liberty also has a strong focus on prevention and we see this popular annual event as an opportunity to educate the community about violence-supporting attitudes and beliefs. We have put together a Quiz on our website and the answers will be signposted along the Coastal Walk from Town Beach to Westport Park.
"It means a great deal to women and children who have experienced domestic violence to see their community standing up in support, and it also provides a strong message that there is never an excuse for abuse or violence, be it physical, psychological or financial."
There are no official start times or locations this year to spread everyone throughout the day and keep the community COVID Safe. Walkers must adhere to Public Health Orders.

16 days of activism
Kempsey Families Specialist Support Services Inc is also supporting the 16 Days of Activism campaign to end domestic violence.
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence against women is an international campaign originating from the first Women's Global Leadership Institute. "16 Days," as it has become known, was launched and continues to be coordinated by the Center for Women's Global Leadership.
Since 1991, the campaign has been active between November 25, the International Day Against Violence Against Women, and December 10, International Human Rights Day.
The 16 Days Campaign is an organising strategy for individuals and groups around the world to call for the elimination of all forms of gender-based violence against women and to:
- raise awareness about gender-based violence against women as a human rights issue at the local, national, regional and international levels
- strengthen local work around gender-based violence against women
- establish a clear link between local and international work to end gender-based violence against women
- provide a forum in which organisers can develop and share new and effective strategies
- demonstrate the solidarity of women around the world organizing against gender-based violence against women
- create tools to pressure governments to implement commitments to eliminate gender-based violence against women
