The 2021 recipients included Port Macquarie Base Hospital, Mid North Coast Cancer Institute, Wauchope District Memorial Hospital, Hastings Home Hospice and Macleay Valley Home Hospice.
The Hastings Cancer Trust funds a variety of projects which help cancer patients, their carers and the facilities which support and treat them.
Grants awarded in the 2021 round included partial funding to the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute for a portable ultrasound system, funds for a portable suction machine at Port Macquarie Base Hospital, and grants to Macleay Valley Home Hospice and Wauchope District Memorial Hospital palliative care for pressure cushions and air mattresses.
A grant will also result in the addition of Indigenous wall art at entries to the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute.
Representatives received certificates confirming the grants during a presentation evening at Rydges Port Macquarie on Thursday, November 18.
The Hastings Cancer Trust also presented hand-knitted blankets to Port Macquarie Base Hospital palliative care representatives.
Lincoln Gardens Retirement Village residents knitted the blankets and donated them to the trust, which in turn gave the blankets to the hospital to provide comfort to patients and their families.
The Hastings Cancer Trust was established in 2005 to link the generosity of the Hastings and Macleay communities with the needs of cancer patients and their carers.
Winter Glimmer Dinner events, with supporters invited to stage functions at home, replaced the fundraising ball in 2021.
Seven events raised about $35,000. An online silent auction supported the cause.
Hastings Cancer Trust administration coordinator Sue Ryan said the trust was grateful to businesses for donating auction items.
She said the Winter Glimmer Dinner events were more low key than the ball and quite successful.
The Hastings Cancer Trust also received support from sponsors as well as donations and a small bequest.
The trust is searching for one or two people to volunteer in the fundraising and marketing coordinator role.
