Lancaster, who is currently completing his HSC exams at the Scots College in Sydney, recently signed a joint deal with the NSW Waratahs and the Australian sevens as part of their new program.
"It's unreal, I can't wait to rip in, I'll be starting there after Chrissy, basically from early January, and I think they are going to Spain in January and I'm eligible for that, and I hope to get selected." he said.
The talented football player has been known for his speed since he was a young boy growing up in the Macleay, from being crowned the fasted under 10 year old in NSW in 2013, to coming first in the GPS 200m 2020 race, he's always been quick off the mark.
He helped guide the U'18 Kempsey Cannonballs team to their premiership in 2018 and has been competing nationally in sevens comps since he was young.
Darby was playing outside centre for Scots this season, a school that's produced talented footballers like Angus Crichton and Andrew Kellaway. But unfortunately the season was cancelled due to COVID.
"We had our first GPS round against the Kings school, and then the season got called off," Lancaster said.
"It was devastating, we put a lot of work in and we were hoping that we had a chance to take it out."
He said he was very happy to be finishing his HSC exams which had been delayed due to COVID.
"It's been a long drag, especially as it's been put back a month or so. I don't think too many kids have sat their HSC exams in December before," Darby said.
Lancaster plans on returning to the Macleay for Christmas for a week or two, before heading back into Sydney to participate in the Sevens training camp.
We wish him the best of luck!
