In all there were 36 players in tow for Tuesday's Kempsey Veterans Golf Club so-called simply ordinary stableford competition, but there was to be some mystery in it's outcome.

Why the mystery, one might ask, but it actually stemmed from the fact that those officials defining the fate of the weekly outflow of members did actually draw from the hat to pair things out.
In reality it was former Shire Councillor Bruce Morris whom single-handily topped the scoring with his 35-point round and 'twas Wayne Hutley the lucky one come the draw.
Hutley's 26 points brought their total to 61 which stood the test (so to speak) by five points from the next best, Terry Hyland and John Daley. With 56 points these runners-up would have been "excited" for quite some time!
Others to be teamed up well were Peter Hatton and Graeme Dyet and also John Inder and Ron Ingall, they, too, figuring in the count with 55 points.
And in conclusion of the outcome - intriguing it was - when Steve Cameron and Craig Mercer, who travelled up from down Port Macquarie way together, sort of snuck in with their combined scores totalling 53 points .
You have to be lucky in any a draw, eh!
C-grade lesserlight Craig James stole the show (so to speak) nearest the pin wise when his tee shot at the third hole saw his ball stop just 60 centimetres from the flagstick.
Missed the $100 booty, but six brand new Srixons came his way and a birdie at the par-3 hole will be in his memory for many a day. Great shot Craig and hearty congratulations all around.
Respective A and B-grade winners, Graham Schasser and Graham Hall, would have been happy, too, with their onto-the-dance-floor achievements. A fine shot by Kevin Hopping saw the A-grader go solo at the eighth hole.
Chip-ins by Peter Thompson, Terry Smith, Morris, Inder and Mercer featured their rounds and the latter will have plenty to talk about when he arrives back in Canberra. Yes, Craig is a son of our handicapper Peter Mercer.
Now, next Tuesday, the first in December, brings about that event of the year, Gold Medal Day, the utmost reward for those monthly qualifiers who participate for the trophy of trophies.
Winning the glamorous medallions is really something to be oh so proud of and we do thank the Kempsey Heights Bowling Club for their sponsorship of many a year.
So to those with Monthly Medal wins in all three grades during the year almost gone bye, we offer the best of luck and may the best men win.
Tuesday's 14-hole Stroke and Putting dominated by the back nine holes gets underway at 9am and visitors are invited to take part in the most serious of competitions.
