In partnership with the Disability Steering Committee, the council is running a free community event on Friday, December 3 from 10am to 2pm at Riverside Park, Kempsey.
There will be a laser tag arena, jumping castles, magic shows from Troppo Bob, food and drink vendors, music and a live interactive reptile show.
There are 4.4 million people in Australia living with disability whose lives, contributions and achievements deserve to be celebrated and that's what International Day of People with Disability is all about.
Kempsey Shire Council general manager, Craig Milburn said council was very pleased to be running this event for the public.
"I think the the Big Day Out is fantastic, and it's great that we are holding this in the community. The Disability Steering committee should be congratulated for organising it, and the council is a big supporter of the event," Mr Milburn said.
This ties in with the councils four year (2017- 2021) Disability Inclusion Action Plan, which was set out to ensure the needs of the disability community were met in the Macleay Valley.
"The aim of council is to make the place a better community for everyone, and that means we should be an inclusive community, and being an inclusive community means that people with disabilities are full participants in our society and events like this just help showcase that," Mr Milburn said.
"There is a whole range of things that council does as a part of our employment strategies, and looking at how we attract people with disabilities to work for us."
For the future, the council will undertake a formal review to develop a new Disability Inclusion Action Plan by June 2022. This includes a community engagement program, and discussions held with people from the disability and broader community.
In the event of wet weather or flooding, the Big Day Out will be moved to the Kempsey Showground.
