Mid North Coast Local Health District acting chief executive Kathleen Ryan said it was hoped the availability of rapid antigen tests in coming weeks would ease that situation.
Ms Ryan said the vast majority of COVID cases on the Mid North Coast were able to isolate and manage COVID safely at home.
"The isolation requirements for household contacts are also enabling people to manage COVID and COVID exposures," she said.
There is continuing pressure on the system for the processing of PCR tests.
People with symptoms, if they are unable to source a rapid antigen test, are asked to come forward for PCR testing.
Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose and loss of taste or smell.
Most people can now use a rapid antigen test result to confirm they are positive for COVID-19 but rapid antigen tests are in short supply.
