The DIAP will dictate how council works to support people with disability so that they can participate in all areas of community life.
A Disability Reference Group has already been formed with representatives from disability services and people with lived experience of disability.
The group is in the process of reviewing the current plan and identifying what has been achieved so far and what the priorities should be going forward.
People with a disability, carers and service providers are also being encouraged to help shape the DIAP for the 2022-2025 period through upcoming public forums.
Community consultation forms a vital part of the planning process, including engagement with people who are impacted by limited access or inclusion and people with physical, intellectual, cognitive and sensory disabilities or mental health conditions.
Three community forums are currently scheduled to discuss key priorities specific to each location:
- DORRIGO: Tuesday, January 18, 10:30am to 12:30pm, Hickory House, 50 Hickory Street, Dorrigo
- BELLINGEN: Friday, February 4, 10:30am to 12:30pm, Bellingen Citizens Centre, Bellingen
- URUNGA: Thursday, February 10, 2:00pm to 4:00pm, Urunga Library, 30 Bonville Street, Urunga
Anybody interested in attending a forum or finding out more can contact the Bellingen Community Wellbeing Planning Officer on 6655 7300.
