Newly-appointed Sports Minister Nic Street revealed his desire to see the AFL's potential 19^th side host home games across the state from Hobart to the North-West Coast.

"If there's a 22 game season what I would ideally like to see is five [games] in the North, five in the South and one played on the North-West every year so it becomes a truly Tasmanian team," he said on Friday.

"We've already made it clear that as part of the announcement on Regatta Point that we're committing more money to the Dial Park in Penguin, we've been clear that we want that brought up to standard.

"The re-development at UTAS Stadium will happen in the very near future as well."

Street also reiterated his confidence in the AFL granting the state a licence later this year for AFL and AFLW after the plans for a new Hobart stadium were revealed.

The confidence seems to be well-placed after AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan spoke at the Hillcrest game in Devonport.

"I think it [a Tasmanian team] has always taken it seriously but I think we have the balance sheet and the resources and the teams have gone into northern markets, we are in a position where we can make the decision in a way where we've got the investment capabilities to do it," McLachlan told FoxFooty.

"I think now the thing can be looked at a bit more as an investment in football rather than having to be the growth engine the other two more recent licences have been."
