Police hold grave fears for a man last seen alive nearly a decade ago, who has only recently been reported missing. A police taskforce has been launched to investigate William Chaplin's disappearance, which is being treated as suspicious. Mr Chaplin, who would now be aged 34, was last seen in Gerogery in early to mid-May 2010. He was only reported missing to police by family on Monday. Detective Sergeant Chris Wallace said there had been "no trace of him". "The family, we've approached them about him and they've confirmed our worst fears, that he has not been seen since 2010," he said. IN OTHER NEWS "His whereabouts are unknown, but we believe his disappearance is suspicious." Victorian investigators have also been assisting. Detective Sergeant Wallace said police were trying to trace Mr Chaplin's movements and had spoken to multiple people. "He was a Border resident," he said. "He lived around Wodonga, Wangaratta, Albury, Lavington, Gerogery, Wagga. "He does come from this area. "We've spoken to a number of people about his disappearance." Mr Chaplin hasn't used bank cards and there haven't been any other signs of life. Police on Tuesday released an image of Mr Chaplin, who is about 188 centimetres tall, of slim build, with facial hair. While he is known to police, he isn't considered to be a serious offender. It's unclear why it took so long for him to be reported missing. Detective Sergeant Wallace said there would be people in the community who could help the investigation. "If anyone's got any information, the last time they may have seen him, or spoke to him, if they can come forward and let us know it would be appreciated," he said.
