THOUSANDS of people were without electricity, Scotts Heads was cut-off and the Nambucca Shire has been declared a disaster zone – but authorities are mostly relieved that superstorm Oswald failed to wreak the sort of havoc caused by the floods of 12 months ago.
Worst affected were the rural areas of the shire – Valla Rural, Bowraville, Misabotti and Taylor’s Arm – with the SES responding to several call outs.
Shire general manager, Michael Coulter, said council had assessed the damage and would continue to do so.
“We’ve been declared a natural disaster area due to the deluge and have completed a natural disaster evaluation form,” he said.
