The perennial favourite emerged from a pack of top chances to take out the flagship event with a four round total of 307.
The conditions for golf were near perfect but the course proved a challenge, as it should for a major championship.
Brian’s final round got off to a dreadful start when he opened with two double-bogeys, but with years of experience and success to call upon, he clawed one back with a birdie on three and turned at two over.
Allan Clarke was the eventual runner up but was unable to seize the opportunity provided by Brian’s wobbly start. Allan eventually finished six shots back of the big prize.
Ross Donnelly shared the A grade nett honours on 302 with Tim Zirkler.
The B grade champion was Jeff Gore with 385 from Greg Zirkler 389. The nett winner in B grade was Steve Hunt 322.
In C grade, Eric Wise defended his championship to win with 391 from Roy Rudner on 400. The nett, by one stroke, was won by Barry McDonald with 310.
