Starting her dance training in early childhood Lucy Vernon gained a strong foundation in classical ballet, contemporary and performance skills with Antonia at Bellingen’s Rivers Ballet Studio and also gained her introduction to flamenco here in Bellingen in her early teens. Having discovered her true passion, Lucy moved to Sydney to study with Marina Tamayo, training and performing with Tamayo’s company Flamenco Del Mar.
Lucy has since spent considerable time in Australia and Spain studying with some of flamenco’s finest technicians and choreographers; in Australia with Antonio Vargas, Roshanne Wijeyeratne and Pepa Molina, in the south of Spain with Noelia Sabarea and Fuensanta “La Moneta’, and in Madrid with flamenco Maestro Manolete, Olga Pericet, Manual Linan and Marco Flores.
Lucy has a history in theatre performance and dances regularly at festivals, such as Adelaide Fringe, and Hobart Flamenco Festival, for corporate and community events and live music venues. With almost a decade of teaching experience, Lucy is in demand as a tutor for her youthful energy, beautiful technique and engaging teaching style. She teaches regularly in Sydney and at interstate events performs and run workshops in dance and percussion. She currently performs weekly in the fusion flamenco and cabaret show “Bohemian Spice”, featured Saturday nights at Postales Tapas bar GPO Sydney.
For Bellingen’s workshop series, Lucy will be accompanied by flamenco guitarist Will Henderson for introductory flamenco dance, as well as more intermediate levels. Lucy will also give classes in percussion and palmas (clapping rhythms). There is a class for everyone, adults, teenagers, children, men and women. Join in and be excited!
