Led by Scott Witchard, the team breezed through their pool matches but had to dig deep in the semi-final and final.
The team consisted of Witchard, Craig Rogan, Brody Clarke, Tony Duncan, Jamie Brechbuhl, Michael Judd, Blake Giddy and Todd Giddy.
It is a sentimental win for the side, which is named after Scott’s late father Ross Witchard. Ross was a life member of the Kempsey Heights Cricket Club and was an integral member of the local cricket community.
He passed away in 2011.
Scott said it was an ‘awesome feeling’ to win the comp for the second time.
“For the first three games we didn’t get out first gear, but we knew it was going to get tough come the semi and then the final,” he said.
“In the semi-final Craig and I got out early but Juddy and Blake got us home.
“We won the toss in the final and Craig batted for the whole innings.”
Witchard said the players really enjoyed the excitement that stemmed from the shortened version of the game.
“It’s really good because you can go out there and have a swing,” he said.
“It can go either way - if you lose early wickets, then you’re in trouble.
“It is entertaining for players and spectators, I like the fact kids are on the sidelines trying to catch the balls that go for six.”
Witchard said he would like to play more cricket in the shortened format and they were looking at putting in the same team at a similar comp in Inverell.
“We will be back next year to defend our title and watching some of the kids on Saturday, they are only going to get better.”
