Royce Close has turned heads with his impressive form for both the Macleay Valley Eagles under 18s side and the Camden Haven Bombers throughout 2014.
Part of the Sydney Swans development squad, the 16 year old took home a host of awards at the Mid North Coast competition and Macleay Valley presentation nights including Best and Fairest and most goals in a season (36).
Having first stated playing AFL when he was six, Royce only returned to the game a couple of years ago following a six year stint in rugby league.
He said his decision to come back was based on his family’s strong roots within the game.
“All my grandfathers and uncles played AFL so it seemed like the right way to go,” he said.
“I like the challenge of playing with guys older than me and I now feel confident in my own game.”
Next season Royce will have an increased role as part Sydney Swans development squad but still plans to play for the Eagles in the regular season.
Anyone else who wishes to play for the Eagles in 2015 should contact the club on 65666217.
