A fire which began near the side of Willi Willi Rd at Sherwood about noon on Wednesday was burning north-east towards the Boonanghi State Forest.
It was listed on the RFS website as being ‘out of control’, having consumed 95ha of bush land.
A second fire at Nulla Nulla Creek Rd has been burning for a week deep into the Thumb Creek Forest.
It had burnt an area of 619ha as of yesterday morning and was listed as ‘under control’.
RFS Lower North Coast Zone manager Lachlann Ison said a plan to combat the Willi Willi Rd fire was being developed.
“We are mapping the fire by helicopter and in conjunction with the National Parks and Wildlife Service and State Forests will be coming up with a strategy to combat it,” Mr Ison said.
“Our focus on the first day of the fire (Wednesday) was on property protection and we were very successful there.
“The fire began in close proximity to the road and we don’t know exactly what caused it but I can say it wasn’t a lightning strike or a property owner’s hazard reduction burn that got out of control.
“It is just more evidence of the extremely dry conditions out there that are adding to the fire risk.”
