Tonight the action will be at the Council’s Civic Centre Courtyard as it hosts the Official Awards and Citizenship ceremony.
Included on the agenda for the night is an address by Australia Day ambassador Claire Tonkin.
Known for her experience as a Drama Executive and Script writer with a passion for telling uniquely Australian stories, Claire’s journey exemplifies the Australian spirit.
Kempsey Shire Council mayor Liz Campbell said it is the perfect way to kick off the festivities.
“Everyone is welcome to join us on Friday to hear our 2015 Australia Day Ambassador’s address on what it means to be Australian, and participate in the variety of Australia Day celebrations planned across the Macleay this long weekend,” she said.
In addition to tonight’s ceremony, there are community celebrations planned for Monday.
The Crescent Head Lions Club will hold its annual Australia Day breakfast at the Crescent Head Rotunda from 8am.
Treasurer Jo Watts said it is always a great way to start the day.
“We usually get a big crowd along and I don’t think this year will be any different,” she said.
“It is a great family event and we have a good group of volunteers working behind the scenes. We have our own awards ceremony which is fun.
The South West Rocks Lions Club will offer a free sausage sizzle and tea/coffee from 7am to 11am at the Horseshoe Bay Shelter Shed, with an Australiana themed morning to be held in the South West Rocks CWA Hall.
