Announcing the club’s new strip for 2015, vice-president Bernie Spear said while the jerseys were different, they still incorporate the main three elements – the eagle, and the blue and white.
“We’ve gone further this year with the uniforms though,” he said. “It was brought up at one of the meetings by Chris MacDonald to include the number 408 somehow.
“He’d spoken to some of the local cricketers and that’s what they came up with.
“We’re extremely happy with the look of the uniforms and having Phil’s number on there is perfect.”
First grade fullback Michael Tyerman said the whole club was elated with the fresh look guernseys.
“The eagle on the front is bigger and looks amazing – I personally can’t wait to put the uniform on,” he said.
“I think everyone was proud to see the 408 on the shorts (when it was unveiled) to honour Phil and his family.
“I think it will give the team another thing to play for, and motivate them. And I think the whole town would appreciate what we are trying to do in honour and memory of Phil.”
Despite having several trial games lined up, the first time players pull on the jerseys will be on April 12 when the official season kicks off and the Sea Eagles travel to Grafton to take on the Ghosts.
