She is a 1997 Nissan Pulsar and cost Jan and Laura Beverley $1000.
With the addition of four new tyres and some other repairs, in May, she will depart Nambucca with the intrepid mother-daughter team at her wheel to bump and bounce first down to Canberra and then up the Birdsville Track to Townsville.
Yes, it’s the Cancer Council’s 2015 Shitbox Rally and Pamela and her ‘Wrong Direction’ drivers are going to be part of it.
“I saw some of the decorated cars arriving in Nambucca Heads after last year’s rally and I thought: ‘what a brilliant idea’,” Jan said.
“In the last three years we have lost six family and friends to cancer with another two diagnosed.
“I want to see a cure found and an end to all this.
“What I like about this fundraiser is it is not targetted at any specific cancer - it covers them all ... and maybe our effort can be a small part of the solution.”
The annual rally sees around 400 participants embark on the seven day adventure, fundraising along the way.
Jan and Laura’s goal is to both enjoy the challenge and raise $5000.
“Driving a cheap car, anything can happen - it’s a challenge, just like cancer.”
With raffle tickets at the ready and donations gladly accepted, the Wrong Direction Team are launching their campaign and putting out a call for decoration ideas.
