As with their match against Old Bar last week, the side scored all of their goals in the second half, but it was not enough to come out on top as a late flurry from Port ended up deciding the game.
Coach Barry Horsfall said his side needed to show more control in the final stages of the match.
“We definitely should have got something out of that match,” Horsfall said.
“Our discipline let us down and we went away from our game plan which proved costly. I was disappointed with some of our senior players for they way they performed. To score three goals in the second half of a home match and not get a point is unacceptable.”
Two first half goals from the Port meant they took the advantage into the break with Kempsey forced to make changes following injuries to central midfielder Blake Webster and forward Liam King.
A stern message from the coach at half time had the desired effect on Kempsey as they came out firing in the second part of the match.
They got on the board via a precision free kick from Troy Ward before a brilliant individual double from young Evan Clark squared the game at 3-3 with ten minutes to go.
A goal to their opponents was compounded by a red card to their goal keeper with Port making it back to back goals to secure victory.
Horsfall said his side need to ensure there is no repeat of their sluggish finish.
“There is going to be changes,” he said.
“For a 25 minute period in that game, we not only looked like winning, but we looked as though we could match it with any team in the competition. Evan Clark’s goals were unlike anything I have seen at this level so it is very disappointing to not have that sort play rewarded with a win.”
Earlier on in the day, the Saints reserves clinched a 1-0 win.
