Urunga’s Karlie Swanson has returned from competing for Australia at the IAAF World Cross Country in Guiyang China.

Seventeen year-old Karlie was part of an U20 team which ran against 109 of the best distance runners in the world. She ended up 63rd overall and was the third Australian to cross the line.
Karlie said the course was one of the toughest she’s run and “I put everything into the race and was extremely happy with my result”.
She also said the team experience was one she will never forget and is now looking forward to her next chance to run in the green and gold for Australia.
After a couple of weeks rest, Karlie will be back into training for the Australian Cross Country season – she has set her sight on making the national team for World Juniors on the track in 2016.
In other results, the week before leaving for China, Karlie competed at the Australian Junior Championships at Homebush in the U20 5000m coming away with the silver medal which was her first national medal for this distance on track.
