The under 11s made it to the ‘big dance’ of Group 2 at Rex Hardaker Oval at Sawtell, where they defeated Coffs Harbour 24-16.
The under 11s are coached by Stu Langley and Jeff Batten, and managed by Glen Jones. These men are well conversed in rugby league and it showed in the way the team played in the grand final.
Straight running Luke Hayes ended the game with a personal tally of four tries and proved to be near impossible to stop. This young man plays hard but fair and is a credit to his upbringing. He just missed out on being Group 2’s player of the year.
Liam Jones started the scoring for the Roosters Juniors with a try to put Coffs on the back foot.
The under 15s were also a standout side for the Roosters this season, bowing out to Sawtell in the decider.
Mal Edwards said while Sawtell were the better team on the day, it was such a deserved achievement for the Roosters boys to make the grand final.
Roosters Juniors official Shane Eadie said both the under 11s and 15s would treasure the memory of playing a grand final for the rest of their days.
He reminds all players that presentation day will be on Saturday at 1pm at Valla Beach Resort. A barbecue will follow and all are welcome to attend. The club’s AGM will be held after the presentation.
