Sponsored by Active Medical Imaging, the Gift had a strong early crowd, and despite the on-again, off-again precipitation, good numbers are expected to pour back through the gates for the finals and fireworks this evening.
The new track got the thumbs after surviving the big wet overnight and the ripping and tearing of a thousand spikes.
The peripheral events also proved a hit, with the street parade bringing traffic to a halt on the Pacific Highway just before lunchtime, while there were a steady throng of entrants for the world championship banana hurl.
