The Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey MP, is demanding a range of additional road safety measures be put in place immediately at key points along the Pacific Highway.
“Just one tragic accident is one too many" Mrs Pavey said.
“There cannot be any more distressing incidents like the tragedy on Friday.
“Action must be taken now to remove the scope for errors-of-judgement to be fatal.
“So many of us travel this stretch of road every day; clearly, the Highway is now in the middle of a major construction zone. There needs to be more measures put in place to escalate road-user safety.
“I will be asking NSW Police Highway Patrol to increase the patrols along this particular stretch of road.
"I have also spoken to RMS about better warning signs, brighter line markings, separating the traffic lanes where possible and lowering speed limits at key intersections, especially at Valla Beach” Mrs Pavey said.
“I agree with community sentiment that we have many Koala warning signs causing distractions and yet limited signs warning drivers of complex intersections and narrow roadways”.
There will be an onsite inspection of the Valla Beach intersection length of roadway carried out by senior RMS officials on Monday.
