A Department of Corrective Services (DCS) spokesperson confirmed the strike took place from 8am on Tuesday to 8am on Wednesday over issues specific to the MNCCC.
Management and staff were meeting with representatives of the Public Service Association today in an effort to find a resolution to the dispute.
Radio Personality Ray Hadley fielded calls to his show today (Wednesday) from disgruntled staff alleging a lack of discipline among groups of inmates and accusing MNCCC management of not providing support for the officer’s actions in controlling inmates.
He further alleged a prisoner transferred from another facility was trying to radicalise Aboriginal inmates by converting them to Islam.
The DCS spokesperson could not comment on the allegations but they told the Argus that the movement of inmates to other jails for a variety of custodial reasons was standard operating procedure for the DCS.
The dispute affected proceedings in the Port Macquarie Local Court were disrupted on Wednesday because prisoners had not been transported to the court.
